10 sites in city to be spruced up to enhance green cover

JALANDHAR: In a bid to provide green lungs to the city for checking environmental pollution, the district administration has selected 10 locations in the city for sprucing them to enhance the green cover in the city under the ‘Smart City’ project.

In a bid to provide green lungs to the city for checking environmental pollution, the district administration has selected 10 locations in the city for sprucing them to enhance the green cover in the city under the ‘Smart City’ project.

Divulging details, Chief Executive Officer of the project Vishesh Sarangal said 10 locations — Beant Singh Park, Tobri Mohalla Park, Dr BR Ambedkar Park, Industrial Area Park, Tankiwala Park, Urban Estate green belt, DAV Bridge flyover, Hoshiarpur road flyover, Pathankot Chowk flyover and Canal Area — had been selected for enhancing the green cover in the city.

Sarangal said it had been decided to give a facelift to existing chowks in the city, besides beautification of big parks of the city.

The Chief Executive Officer said its detailed project report had been approved and tenders for starting the work would be called soon.

He said besides beautification, the focus of the project would be on enhancing greenery in the city for effectively tackling environmental pollution.

Sarangal said the project would also help in giving a rejuvenated look to the city, besides making it clean, green and pollution-free, adding that during the drive, a special focus would be laid on planting site- specific plants, so that they could grow well in a conducive environment.

Tenders to be called soon: Official
