"If you have got old crockery, bags, footwear, bed sheets, quilt covers, showpieces, sceneries, watches, clothes or any other things that you no longer use, then give these all to our team and watch us make these available to someone who will feel so lucky to have them!”
Nidhi Kohli, co-founder of NGO Aaghaaz, made this announcement as she opened up ‘Anokhi Dukaan’ at Model Town. This unusual shop has started selling donated things to underprivileged people at very nominal prices ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 50.
“It’s better to donate than to accumulate. And, this will give the underprivileged people a sense of accomplishment of having bought something themselves and having 'earned' it,” said Mona Bhatia, owner of Cambridge International School, who too has joined the campaign.
The “Anokhi Dukaan” was inaugurated by Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh’s wife Barinderpreet Kaur. She said, "I liked this concept as it will give the unprivileged people a proper shopping experience in which they will be able to choose what they get, something that they can't experience while receiving charities."
Vandana Murria, principal and director of La Blossoms School, added," We will use all proceeds from this to initiate more such projects for the welfare of the underprivileged. We just want to spread the word around to those who will be able to benefit from this initiative."
