Jammu, July 15

A day-long workshop on topic ‘Biomedical waste management – Handling and safe disposal options in J&K’ was organised by the National Health Mission (NHM), J&K, at Convention Centre, Talab Tillo, on Sunday.

The workshop was conducted as per the directions of Dr Pawan Kotwal, Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department, under the supervision of Dr Yashpal Sharma, Director, NHM, J&K.

Sharma, in his address, said, “In modern times, biomedical waste management has become a big concern. The waste generated from the health facilities is hazardous not only for patients and their attendants, but also for medical and paramedical staff. Sanitation workers and cleaners are most vulnerable to getting exposed to infections.” He also launched a handbook on biomedical waste management.
