Srinagar, January 21

A World Bank (WB)-funded cricket bat centre will be set up at Sethar in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The centre will engage more than 400 units of the area that are famous for manufacturing bats.

“Sethar is to be developed as a common facility centre for the manufacture of cricket bats under the World Bank-funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP),” said Raghav Langer, Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA)/JTFRP.

He said the centre would come up at the existing centre in Sethar that was functioning earlier for the seasoning of cricket bats. The facility was badly impacted due to the floods of 2014 and was not operational since.

An ERA statement issued here on Monday read that the CEO made a visit to the area and was informed that more than 400 bat manufacturing units were functional in Sethar and the adjoining areas, employing more than 5,000 people. — TNS
