Srinagar, February 22

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today said they were still waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to denounce the vicious attacks on Kashmiris throughout the country.

After the Pulwama deadly bombing that left 40 CRPF men dead, there has been a backlash against Kashmiris living in other parts of the country.

Mehbooba took to social media to hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not speaking over the issue so far.

“Congratulations to the PM on winning the Seoul Peace prize. But sir, back home in India, we are still waiting for you to denounce the vicious attacks on Kashmiris throughout the country. But what hope does one have when even a Guv can make incendiary comments & get away with it?” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

Modi was conferred the 14th Seoul Peace Prize at a function in the Korean capital on Friday.

In another tweet, she said people of Jammu and Kashmir had suffered immensely and they wanted to hear from the PM on the present issues.

“Sir, the people from Jammu and Kashmir are also your people. They have paid a heavy price and suffered immensely. What is your 'mann ki baat' on them being harassed and punished for something they aren't responsible for?” she wrote in another tweet.

The PDP president, meanwhile, welcomed the Supreme Court order on Kashmir students based outside state.

PDP flays security withdrawal

The PDP has castigated the government decision of withdrawing the security of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other protected persons in the state. “The approach adopted by the authorities is vindictive in nature and that those at the helm are turning their eyes away from reality without any compunction,” PDP general secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said at a press conference. He said only dialogue would save precious lives and make peace permanent in South Asia. “Unless India and Pakistan don’t initiate the dialogue process, it is impossible that the situation in Kashmir will get any better and peace will return to the crises-ridden state,” he said.
