Vijay Kumar takes charge, meets top cops

K Vijay Kumar, adviser to Governor NN Vohra, assumed his office on Friday and met the top police brass to discuss the security situation in the Valley.

The meeting was attended by SP Vaid, Director General of Police; the Director General (Prisons), special DG and other officers.

The adviser stressed close synergy among the security agencies for maintaining peace.

He also called for better security management of prisons viz-a-viz modern gadgetry and infrastructure.

Earlier, Vijay was welcomed by RK Goyal, Principal Secretary (Home), and other senior officers at the Civil Secretariat.

Vijay was, till recently, holding the post of senior security adviser to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

A 1975-batch IPS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, Vijay served in the Kashmir valley between 1998 and 2001 as the Inspector General of the BSF.

He served as the Director General of the CRPF between 2010 and 2012 before being appointed senior security adviser in the MHA.

In 2008, Vijay was chosen to head Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
