Srinagar, July 9

The Kashmir valley is likely to receive fresh rainfall at a few places later this week. This will be a second spell of precipitation within a fortnight.

The downpour is likely to begin from Wednesday and is anticipated to occur across the Valley with heavy rainfall expected at “isolated” places.

The Indian Meteorological Department in its warning bulletin said heavy rains at isolated places was expected over Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

In Srinagar, the department has forecast the possibility of thunderstorm and rains for most days of the week. A similar forecast has been issued for the tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg where the department has raised the possibility of thundershowers and moderate intensity rain.

The forecast has come at a time when the maximum temperature across the region has been higher than the normal over the past few days.

It will be the second spell of rainfall in the Valley within a fortnight even as the region has received largely deficit precipitation during the winter.

The last spell of downpour, which was marked by heavy rainfall in south Kashmir districts, had triggered a flood threat with the water level of the Jhelum rising more than 20 feet within a span of 24 hours.
