Vakil is People’s Conference vice-chief, Ansari gen secy

Srinagar: In a move to rejuvenate the party ahead of the elections within the next couple of months, Sajad Gani Lone-led People's Conference (PC) has started a restructuring process. A spokesman of the PC said Lone had approved the name of Abdul Gani Vakil for the post of senior vice-president, while Imran Reza Ansari would be the general secretary. Rashid Mehmood and Rashid Lone had been appointed as political advisers to the party chairman, he said. The PC has also appointed Junaid Azim Mattu as the chief spokesperson and Adnan Ashraf Mir as spokesperson for the party. Mattoo, who has recently taken over as the Srinagar mayor, had earlier been associated with the PC but later joined the National Conference (NC), where he served as the party spokesman. He resigned from the NC following the party's decision of non-participation in the urban local bodies and panchayat elections last year. These appointments have been made as part of the re-structuring process in which all previous central posts have been abolished. The party would formally release the new hierarchical structure later, the spokesman said. tns
