Vaishno Devi varsity, IGNCA to preserve regional art, heritage

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi, on Thursday.

Vice Chancellor Sanjeev Jain signed on the behalf of the SMVDU and member-secretary Sachchidanand Joshi was the signatory on behalf of the IGNCA, which is an autonomous body of the Union Ministry of Culture.

Prof VK Bhat, Registrar; Prof D Mukhopadhyay, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Anil Tewari, Head, School of Philosophy & Culture; Vinod Sharma, Administrative Officer; Sameer Vohra, Assistant Registrar (Academics) from SMVDU; and BL Mall, Project Director, IGNCA, were also present on the occasion.

The MoU is to initiate collaborative research projects and for the preservation of regional art and cultural heritage. The faculty and students of SMVDU will now have access to the IGNCA library and archival resources and the faculty at IGNCA will be entitled to guide the research projects at the SMVDU.

Initially, the MoU is for a period of five years which is extendable as per mutual agreement. It has also been agreed that the IGNCA Regional Centre of Jammu and Kashmir will be established on the SMVDU campus as soon as possible.
