Three unidentified militants were today killed by the security forces in an encounter in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, said defence officials.

The encounter broke out at around 8 pm at Wanihama village of Anantnag, following an anti-militancy operation launched by the security forces, said a defence spokesman.

He added that three militants were killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

Further details are awaited.

Earlier, militants attacked an Army convoy at Bijbehara in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, an Army official said, adding that a man was injured when the forces fired back.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants, the official said.

"Terrorists opened fire on the last vehicle of the Army convoy near Bijbehara. We retaliated and a man was injured in the incident," he said.

Haji Abdullah (60), a resident of Arwani in Bijbehara, suffered a bullet injury on his left thigh and is undergoing treatment at the Bone and Joint Hospital here, the official said. — PTI
