Teacher booked for beating up student

UDHAMPUR: In what can be termed as another incident of corporal punishment, a teacher is alleged to have beaten up a Class V student of a local government school for not been able to write an application.

In what can be termed as another incident of corporal punishment, a teacher is alleged to have beaten up a Class V student of a local government school for not been able to write an application.

An FIR has been lodged against the teacher at the Kud police station and the Chief Education Officer has also ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident.

Madan Lal, a resident of Saketar Kud, today alleged that his 11-year-old son Varindar Kumar, a Class V student at Primary School, Sakatar Kud, was ruthlessly beaten up by a woman teacher for not being able to write an application.

Locals along with the student today showed the multiple injury marks inflicted on his back and shoulder with a stick to the local media.

He also alleged that the teacher’s husband had threatened him of dire consequences.

The parents also alleged that the teacher went on beating him up till their son fainted in the class.

“We have received a complaint and an FIR has been registered in the matter. The medical of the student is being conducted and initial investigation has started,” said Rakesh Kumar, SHO, Kud.

Meanwhile, Udhampur Chief Education Officer Jattu Ram Bhardwaj said: “The matter has come to my notice and I have ordered the Zonal Education Officer concerned to personally visit the school tomorrow morning and submit a report immediately thereafter. I have also instructed the teacher to be present in my office without fail on Monday.”
