Srinagar, January 18

Molvi Tariq, who had played a key role in BJP good show in the recent municipal elections, resigned from the party on Friday. The former BJP leader said he resigned as the saffron party had no future in the Kashmir valley.

“We tried a lot to spread BJP’s base but now realised that it was a futile exercise. There is no acceptance for the party in Kashmir. Due to my interaction with the people on ground, I have resigned from the basic membership of the party,” Tariq said.

A former corporator and a resident of the Batamaloo area here, Tariq was the BJP in charge for the last year’s urban local bodies elections. The BJP had got its first electoral victory in the Valley in the polls amid a low turnout and boycott by the NCand PDP.

“Due to our efforts, we managed to win 109 seats under my supervision in the municipal elections but day by day it is getting tougher for the BJP in Kashmir,” he added.
