Some Landlines not working

With no mobile phones working for the past more than a month, we have only landlines working at our business unit in the Lal Chowk area. Ever since the landlines were restored last week, a few numbers of Lal Chowk and adjoining places like Jehangir Chowk continue to remain ‘dead’ due to some external fault.

We have not been able to contact our son working in Delhi, though a complaint has been registered. Others are facing similar issues. I have been frequently visiting my shop to establish contact with him, but to no avail.

No public transport

In the absence of any public transport, it is very difficult to go out in an emergency situation. On Tuesday, I had to visit a hospital but despite waiting for an hour, I could not find a single auto-rickshaw on road. I had to travel 6 km by foot before a stranger offered me a lift. The masses are suffering in the current situation as there is no transport available for people to use in emergency situations.

Unhygienic fast food culture

Fast food culture is now part of life in Jammu, especially among the youngsters. However, there seems to be no check to ensure that what is being sold to consumers. Although the Food Safety Act has been introduced, its implementation is going on at a slow pace. Most of the eateries have maintained poor sanitation. Added to this is the no adherence to the use of gloves, covering the mouth by people who prepare food for the customers. The JMC and other civil agencies need to strictly implement the provision of various acts.
