Srinagar, November 21

A soldier and three LeT militants were killed and three jawans injured in two anti-militancy operations in Kupwara district today, officials said.

While the Army jawan was killed and two others injured in an ongoing gunfight in Kupwara forests, three militants were killed in Handwara this morning.

A gunfight broke out around 3 pm when security forces assisted by Special Forces launched an operation in Zurhama forests, 110 km from Srinagar, following inputs about militants’ presence.

“During search, militants opened fire triggering a gunfight. Three soldiers were wounded, but one of them later succumbed to his injuries,” a defence source said. The identity of the slain soldier could not be established. The gunfight was on till the filing of this report. — TNS
