Soldier killed in sniper fire along LoC

SRINAGAR:An Army jawan was killed today in firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s remote Keran sector.

An Army jawan was killed today in firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s remote Keran sector. The soldier, belonging to the Gorkha Rifles, was injured when a forward post came under fire at 9.30 am, nearly 150 km from Srinagar.

Shamsher Hussain, SSP, Kupwara, said the soldier, injured in sniper fire, died on way to hospital. There was no official statement from the Army about the incident.

A series of sniper attacks in Keran have resulted in the death of 25 soldiers.  The sector is a key infiltration route for militants trying to sneak into Kashmir valley. — TNS


SSB jawan dies in dubious firing

Jammu, September 20 

ASI Sham Singh of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was killed and Head Constable Ram Pervaiz Yadav  injured in suspicious firing at a camp in Ramban district. “It is being verified whether it was a case of fratricide,” SSP Mohan Lal said.  The SSB is deployed  for protecting workers of a company building a rail tunnel. — PTI
