The Civil Society, Doda, in collaboration with several other organisations, today held a protest against the government for their long -pending demand of postgraduate (PG) classes for Government Degree College, here. The protest was held at the old-bus stand this morning in which a large number of people participated.
Ishtaq Ahmed Dev, a member of the Civil Society, said residents had been fighting for their rights for the past several years but the government never paid any heed to their demands.
“We want Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the Education Minister to start postgraduate classes in Urdu, English, political science, zoology and economics at degree college so that poor students do not suffer anymore and they can avail education at their door step,” he added.
“We are demanding that classrooms and a multipurpose hall be constructed at the college, including starting of new subjects such as Sanskrit, Islamic studies, physiology and some vocational courses.” Dev added further.
“The PG classes were sanctioned for Government Degree College, Doda, 12 years ago after long agitation by students, but unfortunately so far, the PG classes have not started here”, said Farid Ahmed Naik, a protester. They also demanded a women college for Doda.
