Jammu, January 16

As the upcoming Class XI annual examination of the summer zone (Jammu province) is to be conducted by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) in March this year, it is likely to face difficulties in setting up exam centres at government schools.

Pertinently, the Class X and XII annual board examinations are scheduled to be held from February 27 and 23, respectively. Sources said with the commencement of Class XI board exams in March, it is going to be a tough task for the board to set up all centres in state-run schools, especially in hilly districts.

They said for conducting Class X and Class XII exams, the board mostly selects high and higher secondary schools as they have slightly better infrastructure than primary and middle schools, which do not even have proper desks to sit.

The sources said shortage of staff in hilly districts like Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi was another cause of concern for the conduct of examinations. Last year, during the annual examination of both classes, there were reports of late delivery of question papers at some centres established in hilly areas.

When contacted, Roshan Lal Gupta, Joint Secretary, Examination, JKBOSE, said, “Government high and higher secondary schools are ideal for setting up examination centres. More than 500 centres were set up in government schools for Class X exams while over 300 centres were established for Class XII exams. The Class XI examination centres will also be set up in government schools in hilly districts but if a need arises, we might have to look out for some other options available with us.”
