Srinagar, February 21

Schools across the Kashmir valley are set to open on March 5 after more than two months of winter vacation.

Director, School Education, Kashmir, (DSEK) said the first day would be observed as a greeting day.

“All private and government-run schools will be reopened across the Kashmir valley on March 5. However, teachers will join duties after the winter vacation from February 23 while the routine class work will be resumed on March 5. The first day will be observed as greeting day in all schools,” the circular by the DSEK read.

This year, the government ordered an early winter break in all government and private schools of the Valley, which began from December 3 last year.

Every year, the winter vacation in the Valley schools usually starts from December 15 until the first week of March but this year, the vacation was announced from the first week of December.

The teaching faculty, however, is scheduled to report for duties in advance on February 23 to supervise the arrangements for the reopening of schools.

Meanwhile, the students in the Valley expressed their excitement about the reopening of the schools.

“I submitted my winter assignment today and I am very happy to go to school again,” said Fatima, a Class II student.
