Srinagar, July 17

Schools and colleges opened after 10-day summer break amid humid weather in the Valley today.

The government had announced an early summer break to avoid trouble during weeklong protests following the first death anniversary of slain militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8.

The summer vacations for schools and colleges started on July 6.

The weather has been hot for the past one week as the mercury has touched above 30 degrees Celsius. The parents had demanded extension of the break saying that it is difficult for the students to travel in humid weather.

Keeping in view the humid weather, many schools reduced the working hours from today. They will conduct classes from 8 am till 1 pm or 2 pm. In normal days, classes continue till 3 pm.
