Srinagar, August 1

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Ram Madhav today accused regional parties of supporting terrorism in the state.

“Some parties, due to their own interests, indirectly allow terrorism to sprout or sometimes even directly support them. There is no doubt that militants are infiltrating... (but) there are those who give them money or those who support terror ideology. Whether they are political or Hurriyat, Jamaat-e-Islami or individuals... as long as you do not change them, peace won’t come,” Madhav said while addressing a rally of workers at Balhama, Pampore, on the outskirts of the city.

Asserting that a ‘big campaign’ had been started against corruption, he said corrupt politicians besides terror sympathisers would soon land in jail.

“A big campaign has been started against corruption. Names of bigwigs have started coming up and nobody should be spared even if he was a chief minister... those who support terrorism openly send their own children abroad for studies but make innocent children here victims of terror. The government has taken the task of mending those who do such politics. Separatists will have to be lodged in Tihar and corrupt politicians in Srinagar jail,” Madhav said.

“A major scam in J&K Bank is being unearthed and big names are coming to the fore. Irrespective of their political affiliation or even if they have served as ministers, we will urge the government to take stern punishment against them for gobbling up public money. Thousands of crores of rupees come to this state from the Centre every year, but a few ruling families gobble up the money,” he added.

Madhav said the BJP would hold a debate with the supporters of Article 370 but questioned why big industries were not coming to the state. “Why there is not a single industry in Kashmir at present? We will debate Article 370 with those supporting it, but what stopped J&K from inviting even a single big business unit in the past several decades?” he said.
