Ramban minor rape victim discharged from hospital

Jammu, January 11

A minor rape victim of Ramban district, who had undergone an abortion, has been discharged from Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital in Jammu. She was admitted to the hospital on January 4. The girl has been handed over to her family.

Sources said the girl was allegedly raped in a village in Ramban district eight months ago.

“After raping her, the victim had conceived and the accused had got her pregnancy terminated in Kashmir,” said the source.

“But once the girl was brought home, she was continuously bleeding and had become anaemic. When her health worsened, she was taken to the Primary Health Centre, Ramsu, from where she was referred to District Hospital, Ramban,” the source said.

The Ramban hospital authorities had informed the police about the rape victim and a case was registered.

Doctors at the Ramban hospital referred the girl to Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu.

“After her condition got better, we discharged her on January 9,” said an official of the SMGS Hospital. The accused has been arrested by the police. — TNS
