Police to ferry women in distress at night

In a bid to prevent crime against women, the Jammu police have launched a free night pick-and-drop service within the city for stranded women.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Tajinder Singh said, “We have launched helpline numbers 100 and 1091 for women who are in distress or stuck somewhere alone. They can avail the facility by dialling these numbers.”

“We are giving this facility between 10 pm and 5 am for distressed women only. They can get this facility within 10 minutes from the nearby police station and inside the police vehicle, there will be women cops as well,” the officer said.

“From Sunday evening, this facility will be in effect within the city. It is completely free, but only for distressed women who are stuck somewhere alone,” he added. The police said 319 crimes against women were registered this year. Of them, 160 cases were under investigation and 159 cases had been disposed of.
