The pipes which supplied water to Government High School, Thandikassi, under the Rajouri education zone, were damaged three months ago reportedly by a local, causing inconvenience to its 300 students and staff.

The groundwater division of the Public Health Engineering Department had installed a hand pump exclusively for the school after the water supply pipes were damaged but that has also been rendered non-functional by another local, leaving the school without water.

“The matter was taken up with the senior officials of the education department and the district administration several times but nothing has been done. The worst sufferers are the girl students,” said Mukhtar Dar, school headmaster.

Executive engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Nissar Khan said the matter had been brought to his notice and a ground report from the assistant executive engineer (AEE) concerned had established that locals had stolen the school’s water supply pipes while levelling the ground for construction works.

“The water supply will be restored soon,” said Khan.
