The main function to mark the 73rd Independence was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, where Governor Satya Pal Malik hoisted the Tricolour. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval; Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Gita Mittal; Advisers K Vijay Kumar, KK Sharma and K Skandan; Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam; DGP Dilbag Singh; J&K High Court judges and senior officers of the civil, police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were also present at the event.

Meanwhile, enthusiasm and patriotic fervour ran high across the Ladakh region on the occasion. The Tricolour flew high in all parts of Ladakh, including monasteries and villages. 

For the first time, a function was organised at Hemis Monastery and Matho Monastery to celebrate the day. 

However, the main function was organised at the Polo Ground in Leh town, where Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Gyal Phunchok Wangyal hoisted the Tricolour and inspected the parade. 

Celebrations were also held in Kargil with patriotic zeal and gaiety. Kargil Council CEC Feroz Ahmed Khan hoisted the national flag at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Biamathang.
