The Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment on the third day of its tour of Chenab region today inspected the District Hospital, Doda, solid waste management plant and various municipal areas to take stock of cleanliness and sanitation facilities.
Committee chairman MLA Inderwal GM Saroori was accompanied by legislators Krishan Lal, Naresh Gupta, Shyam Lal Bhagat and senior officials during his visit.
While reviewing sanitation facilities in and around the town, the committee appreciated the beautification works taken up by the municipality in the town. The committee inspected old hospital building; Town Hall, Doda; construction site of the Community Hall, Doda; and the new bus stand and directed the agencies concerned to ensure time-bound completion of renovation works of the old hospital building, Doda.
Directions were also passed to the EO municipality to cover the garbage dumping site near the new bus stand to prevent spread of diseases.
The committee directed the Deputy Commissioner, Doda, to report the quantum of plantations undertaken during the past two years in the Baghilar catchment area within 15 days.
The committee also sought report from divisional forest officials regarding the number and type of plantations along with the total area covered. It sought report on damages to these plantations due to development projects so that actual progress of afforestation programme could be assessed.
The Committee directed the Deputy Commissioner to constitute a team of officials to submit a report regarding plantation with percentage of their survival.
The DC has been asked to prepare a pilot project for the development of municipalities.
The committee expressed concern over the shortage of staff in Municipal Committee, Thatri, and directed to engage sufficient staff to improve sanitation. The ACD, Doda, was asked to ensure that sanitation works in rural areas were taken up on priority.
