Daughters of Panun Kashmir (DoPK) observed Vitasta Divas to mark the day when River Jhelum in Kashmir originated as per the Hindu history.

A large number of displaced Kashmiri Hindus prayed on the banks of Ranbir canal. ‘Vyath Truvah’, according to ancient Kashmiri texts is the day when Jhelum originated in Kashmir. During the event an elaborate ritual is performed and traditional earthen lamps are floated on the water as used to be done in the Valley before the migration in 1989 on the banks of the Jhelum. BJP leader Ashwani Chrangoo was also present on the occasion and spoke about the rich cultural heritage of the Pandits and measures needed to save their traditions in exile. — TNS
