Night temperatures dropped across all weather stations in Kashmir but stayed above the freezing point at most places even though the Valley witnessed snow and rain on Monday, Met officials said here.

Srinagar city—the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir—recorded a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius on Monday night, dropping 0.8 degrees compared to the night before, the officials said on Tuesday.

They said Qazigund—the gateway town to the Valley—recorded a low of 1.6 degrees Celsius, while nearby Kokernag town recorded a low of 0 degree Celsius.

Kupwara in north Kashmir saw the mercury settling at 0.2 degrees Celsius, the officials said.

They said Pahalgam registered a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius, a drop of 1.7 degrees compared to previous night.

Gulmarg saw the mercury dipping due to clear skies following the snow on Monday and recorded a minimum of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius compared to the minus 6 degrees Celsius a night before.

Gulmarg recorded the lowest temperature in the Valley on Monday.

Leh town in Ladakh region recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, the officials said.

They said the mercury in the nearby Kargil town settled at a low of minus 7.3 degrees Celsius. PTI
