Two gangs of thieves busted, 6 arrested

Two gangs of thieves were busted by the police in the Channi area of Jammu on Friday. Cops recovered stolen items of gold, diamond and electronics from their procession worth nearly Rs 25 lakh.

The police said the recoveries were made by the Special Operation Group (SOG) team led by SHO, Channi Parvez Ahmed. They arrested six accused, including two minors. Most of the accused were from other states of the country.

Speaking at press conference, SP, South, Vinay Sharma said, both gangs were active separately and had stolen key luxury electronics items, including LED, laptops, I-phones, gold and diamond ornaments and costly wrist watches in the area.

The police said one of the gangs was led by Rahul Anuragi, a resident of Chattarpur, Madhya Pradesh, along with two minors who are from Chhattisgarh. Other gang members were Mohammed Nabi Ansari, a resident of Jharkhand, Mohammed Shakeel of Akhnoor, Jammu, at present living in Gujjar Colony. On their disclosure, Rashid Ali of Bathindi was also arrested.

The police, meanwhile, urged people to install CCTV cameras as a deterrent and inform the police on finding anything suspicious near their localities.
