Jammu, November 16

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today questioned the government’s decision of holding polls in J&K. They contended how the elections could be held when leaders of major political groups are in detention.

“The way in which the authorities are mulling to hold polls is unjustified, ironic and uncalled for. Since the leadership of major political parties and office leaders are under detention, the idea of holding polls loses its relevance and is contrary to the democratic ideas,” Parvez Wafa, PDP leader, told reporters here.

On November 14, Lt-Governor of J&K Girish Chandra Murmu had announced that the Assembly elections would be held soon and process for the same would be initiated shortly. — TNS
