Gujjar leader highlights problems of tribals

JAMMU: Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi on Sunday urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to take effective steps to ensure supply of food items and medicines to nomadic people presently camping at higher reaches of Kashmir valley.

Prominent Gujjar leader Shamsher Hakla Poonchi on Sunday urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to take effective steps to ensure supply of food items and medicines to nomadic people presently camping at higher reaches of Kashmir valley.

In a statement issued here today, the Gujjar leader said nomads living in the higher reaches with their families and cattle were facing problems due to the prevailing conditions in the Valley.

He urged the Governor to take steps to ensure food supplies and medical facilities to the Gujjars and Bakarwals, who presently live in dhoks in hilly and mountainous areas of Kashmir valley.

He said Gujjars and Bakerwals living near the LoC had been facing numerous problems due to continuous firing by the Pakistan army along the areas adjoining the LoC. He said the tribals had suffered a lot due to the prevailing situation on the LoC.

He also appealed to the Union Government to sanction a large number of individual bunkers for each and every family of the Gujjar-Bakarwal community who live along the LoC.
