JAMMU: The police have recovered a stolen police Gypsy of a senior officer by busting a gang of interstate vehicle lifters in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday by arresting four persons.

The police have recovered a stolen police Gypsy of a senior officer by busting a gang of interstate vehicle lifters in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday by arresting four persons.

The SP, South, Vinay Kumar, while briefing the media at Gandhi Nagar said, “The theft of the Gypsy of a DSP in May was a challenging case for the police due prevailing security scenario in the state. Our teams made constant efforts in the case and finally managed to recover the Gypsy.”

“Titu, alias Karam Kumar, of Harnam Nagar, Batala (Punjab), at present resident of Shastri Nagar, Kathua, confessed to his involvement in the theft and on his disclosure the police managed to recover the Gypsy along with other stolen vehicles,” the police officer said.

“We recovered two vehicles, including the police Gypsy, from Kathua. Ashwani Kuamr of Bishan, Tajinder Singh of Preet Nagar, Digiana, both technicians, used to tamper with chassis numbers,” the officer said.

“We have also arrested an RTO agent, Aftab Ahmed, of Srinagar, at present resident of Channi Himmat, who managed to change the registration, engine and chassis numbers of stolen vehicles from registration certificates (RCs) of condemned vehicles and further sell them to customers on cheap rates,” the police said.
