Jammu, August 12

Thousands of people attended the congregational Eid prayers in mosques and Eidgahs across the district on Monday. The biggest gatherings of devotees were seen at Jamia Masjid at Kargil, Islamia School premises, and Eidgah, Kargil, where the prayers concluded peacefully.

The situation in Kargil continued to remain peaceful with shops and other business establishments functioning normally and people were seen busy in celebrations. Deputy Commissioner Baseer ul Haq Choudhary said there was usual movement of public and private transport.

“The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for availability of adequate food and other essentials in the district so that people do not face any inconvenience,” the DC said.

Eid was celebrated with a great religious fervour and gaiety at Sankoo, Drass, Kargil, Shakar-Chiktan and Zanskar and other areas of the district.

On August 9, All Parties Action Committee — an amalgam of all political groups (minus BJP) and religious organisations — after a meeting with a high-level delegation of the government announced to withdraw its agitation in view of the Eid festival.
