The Rajouri police rescued 73 animals during the last 10 days which were being transported to Kashmir via Mughal road. 

On Wednesday morning, a Thanamandi police team led by Javed Iqbal Malik, SHO, intercepted a vehicle carrying 10 bovine animals. During checking, the driver, Mohammad Iqbal, couldn’t produce any permission from the District Magistrate for transporting the animals. The police seized the vehicle, arrested the driver and booked him under relevant sections.

In all, 38 bovines were rescued on July 1 by a team of the Rajouri police led by Ajaz Haider, SHO, from three vehicles. One of the drivers was later arrested during raids. He was identified as Abdul Majid.

On July 7, Inspector Amit Sharma, SHO, Dharamshal police station and his team rescued eight animals during night frisking. On July 8, a bovine animals-laden truck was intercepted by MD Khan, in charge, Chingus police post, on the Jammu-Poonch highway at Kallar. A truck carrying 17 bovines was also impounded. — OC
