Based on the bold subject of gay and lesbian culture in the Bollywood film industry, film ‘Funtasiyan’, made by Jammu-based writer, producer and director Baljit Raina, is all set to release in 38 cities across the country on August 17.
The premier of the film was held in Jammu. The movie reveals horrifying facts about youngsters aspiring to enter Bollywood but ending up satisfying unnatural sexual demands of producers and directors.
Sapna Soni, a theatre, TV and film actor, who will be seen in the main role in ‘Funtasiyan’, while talking to The Tribune, said though the role was bold, she accepted the challenge to showcase the gory truth beneath the veils of tinsel town.
“The story is beautifully knitted on gay and lesbian culture prevalent in Bollywood these days, which has become an instant demand of middlemen, small time and even renowned producers and directors, whom aspiring freshers approach in the hope of landing in films and serials,” said Sapna Soni. The film contains very bold scenes, but none shows any vulgarity, she claimed.
She said she had no inhibition or reservation in doing such a role, as an artiste should take up challenges to bring out the truth.
Director Baljit Raina said since he had been to Mumbai quite often and had seen the plight of upcoming actors, he decided to bring it on the silver screen so that misguided youth may not fall into such traps.
Funtasiyan holds the distinction of having the entire cast belonging to Jammu. The technical part, as well as music composing, editing and dubbing, were done in Jammu and it is the first Jammu-made film to hit 38 cities across India.
