Khalsa Academy, Amritsar, wins seven-a-side hockey tourney

SRINAGAR: The team of Khalsa Academy (B), Amritsar, defeated Steel Plant Board, Delhi, 3-1 in the final of Inaugural seven-a-side Women’s Hockey Tournament-2019 (North Zone), played at the Kashmir University (KU) ground on Monday.

The team of Khalsa Academy (B), Amritsar, defeated Steel Plant Board, Delhi, 3-1 in the final of Inaugural seven-a-side Women’s Hockey Tournament-2019 (North Zone), played at the Kashmir University (KU) ground on Monday.

The tournament was organised by Kashmir Hockey Academy (KHA), in collaboration with KU’s Directorate of Physical Education and the State Sports Council. A KHA spokesman said award of Rs 15,000 was given to the winners, Rs 10,000 to runners-up while Rs 5,000 was given to the first runner-up of the tournament, Khalsa Academy (A).

Jaipal Singh, member of public service commission, was the chief guest on the occasion and Prof Nissar Ahmad Mir, Registrar of KU, was the guest of honour. A total of 14 teams, including seven from outside the state, participated in the tournament.
