Edu board cracks down on 23 officials for misconduct

The unfair means committee of J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has taken action against 23 officials who were charged with different kinds of offences under the terms and regulations for prevention of unfair means/ misconduct in the higher secondary (Class XII), higher secondary part-I (Class XI) and secondary school (Class X) 2019 examinations of summer zone.

Sources said the officials were appointed as superintendents/ deputy superintendents/ assistant superintendents at various examination centres of Jammu region and charges were framed against them under the BOSE Act.

Sources said all 23 were given an opportunity by the committee to defend themselves.

In the Class X examination, as many as five officials, including two superintendents and three deputy superintendents, were disqualified for two years from all BOSE assignments. Similarly, four officials (two superintendents and two deputy superintendents) were disqualified for one year from all BOSE assignments. One assistant superintendent was let off by the committee.

Of the 12 officials who were assigned the task to conduct Class XII examinations at different centres, 11 were given warning by the unfair means committee to be careful in future while the last one was let off. In Class XI examination, a superintendent and deputy superintendent were given warning by the committee to be careful in the future.

In April this year, the unfair means committee of the school education board had disqualified 24 officials, appointed under the supervisory staff in the annual board examination of the three classes of winter zone (Jammu province). The examination was held in October-November 2018.

“Gone are the days when there were reports of mass copying at examination centres. The school education board has taken concrete measures in the past few years to curb this malpractice, which had dented its image,” a BOSE official said.

“Major thrust is on the hilly/ far flung districts to ensure smooth conduct of board exams. No doubt, few cases of unfair means still emerge but the system has improved a lot and many new initiatives are being taken to make it foolproof,” the official added.
