High fee: Directorate starts inspection of erring schools

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has requested the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of all 10 districts of the Jammu region to support it in taking a stern action against the private schools for raising fee without the prior permission of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC).

A few days ago, the directorate had instructed the proprietors of private schools functioning in the region to immediately submit duly authenticated details of fees for each class as it stood on August 1, 2014, and also sought details of the present fee structure.

Sources said teams from the department had already started inspecting private schools against which specific complaints were received from the parents regarding charging of exorbitant fees and other malpractices.

They said cases were being referred to the FFC for seeking further directions on action against the erring schools. In view of the ongoing admission process, the directorate has also requested the FFC to convene an urgent meeting for the convenience of the parents so that they have clarity on the vital issue.

“The schools which were supposed to make public their present fee structure and as it existed on August 2014 have started sending details after the notices were issued by the directorate and FFC,” a DSEJ official told. “For further action in the case, the FFC directions have been sought,” the official added. — TNS
