Srinagar: Protests erupted against the Army in a Bandipora college during an event which was later called off by the authorities, officials said. The college had organised a two-day youth summit in collaboration with the Army and a validation function was scheduled on Tuesday which was to be attended by senior Army, police and civil officials. Students protested against the Army’s presence on the campus and raised anti-Army and “pro-freedom” slogans. “The students were irked as to why the event was being held with the Army. We later intervened in the matter and requested them to calm down. The event was later called off,” a senior official in Bandipora said. Despite efforts, the defence spokesman concerned  could not be contacted. tns
