Kathua, January 22

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Givernor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday inaugurated the 1.2-km Keerian-Gandial bridge over the Ravi.

The bridge would reduce the distance between Keerian-Gandial village and Kathua town to just eight kilometre from earlier 35 km.

Addressing a large gathering after inaugurating the bridge, Gadkari lauded the efforts of the state administration, especially the engineering wing, for executing the project before the deadline and saving Rs 26 crore.

Highlighting the role of Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh, Gadkari said this project was the outcome of his persistent efforts. Jitendra Singh continuously followed up the project not only at the state-level but at the Central-level also, he said.

While speaking about the growth of Jammu city, Gadkari said it should be developed on the pattern of New Delhi and New Mumbai by maintaining a balance between development and environment.

In his address, the Governor praised the efforts of Gadkari for initiating a number of infrastructure projects in the state.

Recalling his association with the BJP, the Governor said he had worked on the manifesto of the party.
