Rajouri, September 23

An inter-division state-level kabaddi tournament for boys (14-19 years) began at the mini sports stadium in Rajouri on Sunday.

Chief guest MA Asad, district development commissioner, declared open the tournament. Hundreds of students from various schools across the state are participating in the tournament, which is being organised by the youth services and sports department in collaboration with the Rajouri administration.

Addressing the participants, MA Asad lauded the efforts of the youth services and sports department for organising such sports events in the border district.

“These competitions will promote sports culture among the students. There is no dearth of talent here as many players from various districts have brought laurels to the state,” he added.

Asad also interacted with the players and wished them good luck for their matches. He said the main objective of conducting such tournaments was to highlight the hidden talent of the youth and to give recognition to them at the state and national level.

He appealed to the organisers to involve the youth in sports activities to channel their energy in the right direction and imbibe leadership qualities, team spirit and discipline among them. — OC
