New Nagaland Governor RN Ravi, better known as an expert on North-east and for his negotiating skills that he employed while working as an interlocutor with Naga groups, is also an experienced Kashmir hand who had served in the Kashmir valley in the most critical times in the 1990s.

Ravi, a 1976 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, was in Kashmir for several years when militancy was at its peak. He had helped the security forces and the state police to solve many complicated cases as IB officer in Srinagar.

During his tenure as the Deputy National Security Adviser while he was engaged with the Naga groups and had brought about a landmark agreement in 2015 by bringing a real-time change in the situation and scripting new chapters in the art of negotiation, he was trusted for his advice on Kashmir affairs. He had the most updated knowledge about the state affairs and the new challenges that were emerging in the Valley owing to the local recruitment and his suggestions to deal with the problem were taken as a blueprint for peace in Kashmir.
