Mystery shrouds woman’s death as family cries foul

Jammu, October 8

A 34-year-old woman and mother of two minor children was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday at her in-laws home in the Ratnuchak area of Jammu.

The deceased was identified as Suman Bala (34) wife of Santok Singh, a resident of Ratunchak. However, the police have arrested her husband after her family alleged she was allegedly murdered by husband over dowry. The incident took place at 2.30 am around 15 kilometres from district headquarters.

Ramel Chand, a relative, said, “The relationship between both were sour since the past two years after her husband started demanding car from her family, but her family failed to fulfil his wish. The matter had reached the women cell several times after physical and mental harassment of her.”

Another relative of the deceased said, “We want that the government should make strict laws so that such incidents can be prevented. We want proper investigation from the police and all those who hatched the conspiracy should be given stringent punishment.”

A senior police officer said, “We got a call at 2:30 am from her husband about this incident, the police immediately rushed to the spot and started investigation. We arrested her husband on suspicion and further investigation is on”. — OC
