ANANTNAG: A mentally challenged man from Kulgam was shot dead by the Army outside its camp in Shopian on Saturday while he was trying to trespass into the camp, said the police. He has been identified as Rayees Ahmad Wani of Begaam, Kulgam. The police said the incident took place at 3 am on Saturday outside the 34 Rashtriya Rifles base of the Army at Pahnoo village of Shopian district. A senior police official said Wani was trying to cross the security fence when the Army personnel opened fire. "The Army men issued a warning before firing some shots in the air," the official said. Katra resident killed in lightning strike 

Katra: A man was killed and his daughter and cousin were injured on Saturday when lightning struck their house in Katra. As per police reports, lightning struck the house of 50-year-old Farooq Ahmad Bakarwal, killing him on the spot and injuring his daughter Rafia and his cousin Abdullah at Kun Darorian village. OC

Man held for issuing fake certificates

Jammu: The Crime Branch, Jammu, on Saturday arrested Ghulam Qadir from the Sidhra area of Jammu district who was involved in issuing fake no objection certificates for land belonging to the Jammu Development Authority. Qadir is a resident of Diwar village, Tral, in Pulwama district, and was presently putting up at Nikki Mohalla, Eidgah Road, Sidhra. TNS
