Meeting of CBSE hubs

JAMMU: The first meeting of the CBSE ‘Hubs of Learning’ was held at Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu. Lead Collaborator Principal Ruchi Chabra outlined the significance of Hubs of Learning as a programme as mandated by the CBSE. The hub schools include Doon International School, Jammu, DPS, Nagbani, J&K Police Public School, Jammu, Regional Research Laboratory High School, Jammu, and Tiny Scholars. The members discussed in detail the objectives of the hub, creating an open, conducive and barrier-free learning environment to raise the standards of education and promoting a healthy value system in all schools.   

NCC unit holds green drive

The NCC unit of GGM Science College in collaboration with the department of forestry organised a plantation programme as part of the celebrations of Van Mahotsav week. A total of 150 boy and girl NCC cadets along with students from the geology department participated in the drive. About 50 different species of plants were planted by cadets along roads as well as on the college campus. Principal of the college Kaushal Samotra and Dr (Captain) Anjana Sharma, assistant professor and in charge NCC (Girls) of the college, motivated the cadets and students to carry on the drive in their native places. Col RK Sharma Commanding Officer, 2 J&K Girls Battalion, NCC, was the chief guest.

Drug abuse awareness 

Siras Higher Secondary School in collaboration with the GS Sports Club on Sunday organised a programme on the theme, “Say no to drugs and yes to sports”. Sourabh Prasher, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, RS Pura, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Station House Officer, Bishnah, Deepak Pathania was the guest of honour. The aim of the programme was to create awareness among students against drug abuse and to encourage them to stay fit and healthy. Students who had brought laurels to the school in the Class XII board exams were  awarded medals.

Favourite Book Character Day

Srinagar: English activity Favourite Book Character Day was held at Delhi Public School, Srinagar. “Cinderella, Matilda, Snowwhite, Jasmine, Alladin, Harry Potter, Nancy Drew, Joe, Alex, Charlie Chaplin, the list is endless. All book characters had come to life today at the DPS,” said an official from the school. Children dressed up in book characters in vibrant colours and forms had come to school with enthusiasm and joy. 

No need to panic, schools told  

The Private Schools’ Association, Jammu and Kashmir, asked all schools not to panic due to the current situation in the Valley. GN Var, chairman of the association, said in case of any emergency, our institutions should be ready to serve as disaster management and emergency operation centres. “All schools will function normally. In case of any untoward situation, we will keep you updated through messages. Don’t pay heed to rumors,” he said.

Claude Martin Debate 

DPS, Srinagar, was invited by the La Martiniere College, Lucknow, to participate in the prestigious 6th Claude Martin Debates and Boulogne Lise Quiz. A team of six students, Ali Sadiq, Asma Shakeel, Syed Huda, Hadi Nehvi, Mohammed Ali and Sana Bilal accompanied by Miss Saira Raza, participated in the event. The topics were given on the spot with an hour and a half to research and present it. You could be the proposition or the opposition. All speakers voiced their opinions forcefully.
