Jammu, September 14

The J&K High Court Bar Association on Friday lodged a strong protest at the District Court Complex, Jammu, against the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities, and the recent militant attack at Jhajjar Kotli.

Addressing a gathering, Bar association president BS Slathia said the hike in the prices of essential commodities and fuel had affected the people of the country and the present dispensation had totally failed to control it.

Condemning the militant attack at Jhajjar Kotli, he urged the authorities to identify the sleeper cells which were active in and around Jammu so that peaceful atmosphere could be maintained.

Slathia further said some Kashmir-centric political parties instead of participating in the local bodies and panchayat elections were planning to boycott these which was contrary to the basic concept of democracy.

He said the Supreme Court should take notice of the protests being held by parties to mislead the people of the state for retention of Article 35A of the Constitution, whose validity was being examined by the top court itself.

Prominent among others present in the gathering were Sachin Gupta, vice-president; Prem Sadotra, general secretary; Himanshu Sharma, joint secretary; Chetan Misri, treasurer; Daljeet Singh Manhas and many others.
