The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday issued notice to the accused and the State of Jammu & Kashmir for August 7 on a plea filed by the father of the Kathua rape victim.

Appearing for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, senior advocate RS Cheema sought time to argue the matter.

Cheema told the court that an appeal was also to be filed by the state and all the matter could be taken up together.

Appearing for one of the accused, senior advocate JS Bedi also asked for time to argue the case.

The bench was told that the record was voluminous and they needed time to assist the Bench.

Refusing to grant a far-off date, the Bench headed by Justice Rajiv Sharma fixed the case for August 7. Justice Sharma made it clear that the Bench was here to do justice. “If we don’t hear it, the case will drag on,” the bench said.
