JUTA gets new office-bearers, 4 out of 5 elected

JAMMU: Professor Neeru Sharma of the department of home science was today elected unopposed as the new president of the Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) — the frontline organisation of university faculty members.

Professor Neeru Sharma of the department of home science was today elected unopposed as the new president of the Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) — the frontline organisation of university faculty members.

Out of the five posts, the voting was held only for the post of vice-president on Tuesday, while there was no contest for the other four posts where the candidates were elected unopposed.

Dr Sikander Pal Choudhary, department of botany, was elected unopposed as the new secretary of JUTA while Dr Pritam Singh of Punjab department was elected as the joint secretary without any contest.

Dr Meghna Dhar of the department of library and information science was elected unopposed as the new treasure.

According to the election commissioner for JUTA elections Professor S K Pandita, a total of 209 votes were polled for the post of vice-president where Dr Vijay Saigal of the department of law defeated his rival from the same department Dr Savita Nayyar in one-sided contest by 86 votes. Dr Saigal was polled 144 votes while Dr Nayyar got only 58 votes. At least seven votes remained invalid.
