Jammu, July 17

After a delay of two years, the University of Jammu has finally initiated the process of installing CCTV cameras on its main campus. It had invited expression of interest (EoI) for the supply, installation and commissioning of these cameras in April 2016.

The move was aimed at ensuring a strict surveillance on campus activities. The university had constituted a committee headed by Prof Vibhakar Mansotra, Director, Centre for IT Enabled Services and Management, Jammu University, to execute the project.

A senior official of the university said they had installed a few cameras in the examination block.

“The university has identified some important sites for installing CCTV cameras. The process has begun and it will likely be completed by the end of this year,” he said.

“We are very happy with the move as it would not just check the entry of outsiders but also instill a fear among anti-social elements,” Vishal Sharma, a university student said, adding that he hoped the project would be completed in a time-bound manner.

Dr Parmeshwari Sharma, Dean Students Welfare, said, “Due to certain technical issues, we couldn’t start the project on time. We are hopeful that before the commencement of the new academic session, CCTV cameras will be installed at all the identified places,” she said.
