The City of Temples celebrated Janmashtami with religious fervour and gaiety on Saturday with temples witnessing huge rush of devotees.

All Krishna temples in Jammu city were decorated with flowers and lights. It is one of the most popular festivals in Jammu celebrating the birth of Krishna on the eighth day (Ashtami) in the month of Sravana.

The festivities in Jammu begin during midnight with the birth of Krishna. The entrances to temples in Jammu were decorated with footprints of infant Krishna drawn by devotees.

To mark the festival, all prominent bazaars and streets were decorated and illuminated. Most of the devotees here keep daylong fast and break it at midnight after the final puja.
