Alleging that the funds provided by the Central government did not match the sports infrastructure on ground, the J&K Olympics Association has demanded the issuance of white paper mentioning the funds made available to the state by the Government of India during the past three years under the “Khelo India” and other schemes.

Briefing the media, office-bearers of the J&K Olympics Association demanded infrastructure for various sports/games, including tennis, football, shooting, boxing, wushu and athletics etc, so that the players could achieve success at the national and international level.

The state Olympics body also demanded the reconstitution of the headless J&K State Sports Council with the inclusion of sportspersons and administrators as its members.

“Despite the announcement of an international-level cricket stadium at Bajalta, it could not see the light of the day due to the multi-crore scam. Therefore, the authorities concerned should initiate measures to begin the work on the same at the earliest,” a statement said.

The Olympics association appealed to the legislators to provide substantial amount out of

their Constituency Development Fund for the creation of sports infrastructure to channel the energy of the youth. It requested the Governor and Advisers to intervene into the matter. — TNS
